A wing of the Birdzilla.com Internet Network

This is my first posting here. Me and my wife always have camera and zoom binoculars ready at our kitchen area that looks out on our backyard feeders. I have a picture of a bird I believe to be a painted bunting. This bird stayed around for about two weeks that we noticed from mid - July to last of July 2009. We live on an acre and a quarter of very lush pecan wooded land. We feed hummingbirds and songbirds during the spring and summer and feed songbirds through the winter. Anyway attached is my poor quality photo through the window over the kitchen sink.

You got it, it is a male Painted Bunting. The female is all green.

Looks like you are feeding a mix of milo and millet. Birds like buntings, doves, sparrows and quail will feed on milo and millet. You will attract a larger mix of birds by also feeding black-oil sunflower.

Here is a feed preference chart.

Thanks for responding, I downloaded feeding chart and made a print. Earlier this year between April - May I had three visitors in my yard it was hunting season, see attached. These visitors would rather deal with my two dachshunds than the hunters rifle. Over the years I have seen many different birds and identified them with a book, but really never photographed them till last year.

Turkey's are such cool birds. I live on a golf course north about 30 miles north of Dallas. Early one morning about 6 months ago, I saw 7 turkeys walking across the fairway and into the creek and woods that border the course. I had no idea there were turkey's in the area.
